This Chapter Verse Commentaries:

12. Here we come back to the position established in Eph 2:18, but the thought of the freedom and fulness of communion with the Father which is ours in Him is brought out in greater detail.

παρρησίαν. Of freedom in approaching God, characteristic of Heb. (Heb 4:16, Heb 10:19) and 1 Jn (1Jn 3:21, 1Jn 5:14). Elsewhere in St Paul it seems to be used only of the relation of a man to men.

ἐν πεποιθήσει. Of confidence towards God as in 2Co 3:4.

διὰ τῆς πίστεως αὐτοῦ. Cf. Eph 4:13. ‘Through our faith in Him’ (Rom 3:22; Rom 3:26; Gal 2:16; Php 3:9). Faith in Christ is the source of ‘justification,’ i.e. of the consciousness that God is on our side, and that ‘through Him we have obtained our access by faith into the grace wherein we stand’ (Rom 5:2, τῇ πίστει om. by BDG lat vt).
