This Chapter Verse Commentaries:

4. ἔν σῶμα καὶ ἔν πνεῦμα. ‘As the body is one so also is the spirit.’ The unity of the body is taken as an axiom, and the unity of the spirit, on which attention is being concentrated, is shown to be a necessary corollary. Cf. Eph 2:16; Eph 2:18.

καθὼς καὶ ἐκλήθητε ἐν μιᾷ ἐλπίδι τῆς κλήσεως ὑμῶν. St Paul has already called attention (Eph 1:18) to the hope implied in a call from God. Here the thought is that of the unifying power of a common goal. Different as the manner of the different ‘callings’ may be, and various as are the conditions in which the call of God finds a man, yet the end is one. The hope is the hope of the glory (Col 1:27; Rom 5:2) at once present and future.
