11. καὶ αὐτὴ Σάρρα. “Even Sarah herself.” Perhaps the “even” refers to her original weakness of faith when she laughed (Gen 18:12; Gen 21:2; comp. Rom 4:19). Dr Field thinks that these words may be a gloss, and that the verse refers to Abraham, since ἔτεκεν, “was delivered,” is not found in א, A, D.
εἰς καταβολὴν σπέρματος. For technical reasons the probable meaning is “for the founding of a family” (comp. the use of the word καταβολὴ in Heb 4:3, Heb 9:26 and “seed” in Heb 2:16, Heb 11:18).
