ὀρέγονται. The word means, “they are yearning for,” “they stretch forth their hands towards.”
οὐκ ἐπαισχύνεται αὐτοὺς κ.τ.λ. “Is not ashamed of them, to be called their God” (Gen 28:13; Exo 3:6-15).
πόλιν. The “inheritance incorruptible and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for us” (1Pe 1:4). This digression is meant to shew that the faith and hopes of the Patriarchs reached beyond mere temporal blessings.
