This Chapter Verse Commentaries:

18. ὅθεν. “Wherefore”; because both “a covenant” and “a testament” involve the idea of death.

οὐδʼ. “Not even.”

ἐνκεκαίνισται. Lit., “has been handselled” or “inaugurated.” The word is from the same root as “Encaenia,” the name given to the re-dedication of the Temple by the Maccabees (Joh 10:22. Comp. Deu 20:5; 1Ki 8:63; LXX.). The perfect is used by the author, as in so many other instances where we should have expected an aorist.
