16. χορτάζοσθε, from χόρτος, see note Jam 1:11, and for the verb note on Mat 5:6 in this series. First of cattle, ‘to feed,’ βοσκημάτων δίκην … βόσκονται χορταζόμενοι, Plato, Rep. 586: then, as a coarse comic word, of man, ‘to eat.’ In later Greek χορτάζειν means to satisfy, so frequently in synoptic gospels; elsewhere in N.T. only here and Joh 6:26; Php 4:12; Rev 19:21.
