This Chapter Verse Commentaries:
48. ἔχει. Hath his judge already, without My sentencing him (Joh 3:18, Joh 5:45). The hearer may refuse the word, but he cannot refuse the responsibility of having heard it. For the retrospective use of ἐκεῖνος see on Joh 1:18, and for ἐν τ. ἐσχάτῃ ἡμέρᾳ see on Joh 6:39. This verse is conclusive as to the doctrine of the last judgment being contained in this Gospel.
