This Chapter Verse Commentaries:

2. ὁ παραδιδούς. Who was betraying; he was at that moment at work: his knowing the place disproves the sneer of Celsus, that Jesus went thither to hide and escape. Origen (Cels. II. x.) appeals to Joh 18:4-5 as shewing that He deliberately surrendered Himself. Συνήχθη (literally, assembled) suggests that they met for a definite purpose, such as teaching or devotion. The owner must have known of these frequent gatherings and may have been a disciple.
