10. Baffled and still in doubt as to the relations between himself and his Prisoner he takes refuge in a domineering tone of assumed confidence. To me speakest Thou not? Whatever He might do before His countrymen, it was folly to refuse to answer the Roman governor. For ἐξουσίαν, authority, see on Joh 1:12 and comp. Joh 5:27, Joh 10:18, Joh 17:2 : note the emphatic repetition.
