This Chapter Verse Commentaries:
4. ἔδει. There was no other way, unless He crossed the Jordan, and went round by Perea, as Jews sometimes did to avoid annoyance from the Samaritans (see on Mat 10:5). As Jesus was on His way from Jerusalem, He had less reason to fear molestation. Contrast Luk 9:53.
