This Chapter Verse Commentaries:

47. There is a pause, and then Christ answers His own question and gives a final disproof of their claim to be God’s children (Joh 8:41).

ὁ ὢν ἐκ τ. θ. The true child of God, deriving his whole being from Him: comp. Joh 8:23, Joh 3:31, Joh 15:19, Joh 17:14; Joh 17:16, Joh 18:36-37.

τὰ ῥήματα τ. θ. See on Joh 3:34. Christ here assumes, what He elsewhere states, that He speaks the words of God (Joh 8:26, Joh 7:16, Joh 17:8).

διὰ τοῦτο. For this cause: see on Joh 7:21-22. S. John uses the same test; ‘We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth and the spirit of error’ (1Jn 4:6).
