6. συκῆν … πεφυτευμένην ἐν τῷ ἀμπελῶνι αὐτοῦ. The corners of vineyards were often utilised in this way, as they still are (Tristram, Nat. Hist. Bib. p. 352). Here the Jewish nation is compared to the fig-tree (Hos 9:10; Jer 24:3), as in the acted parable of the Barren Fig-tree (Mat 21:19); more often Israel is compared to the Vine or the Vineyard (Psa 80:8-11; Isa 5:2).
