This Chapter Verse Commentaries:

21. μακάριοι οἱ πεινῶντες νῦν. Comp. Luk 1:53; Psa 107:9. St Matthew here also brings out more clearly that it is the beatitude of spiritual hunger “after righteousness.”

χορτασθήσεσθε. This verb (from χόρτος, a farm-yard) originally, meant ‘to fatten cattle.’ It is used in the LXX[137] and by each of the Evangelists, but only once by St Paul.
