This Chapter Verse Commentaries:
3. ἀπέστειλεν τοὺς δούλους. This was in accordance with Eastern custom. Cp. Est 5:8; Est 6:14.

οὐκ ἤθελον, ‘refused,’ the imperfect expresses the successive refusals: cp. singuli introducebantur, Livy X. 38.
