This Chapter Verse Commentaries:
24. ἔμπροσθεν τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου. Stay the sacrifice, though begun, for God will not accept it unless the heart be free from anger, and the conscience from offence. It is an application of the great principle summed up in ‘I will have mercy and not sacrifice.’ Cp. also Psa 26:6, ‘I will wash my hands in innocency, O Lord, and so will I go to thine altar.’
