This Chapter Verse Commentaries:
39. μὴ ἀντιστῆναι τῷ πονηρῷ, i.e. do not seek to retaliate evil.
ῥαπίζει. See ch. Mat 26:67.
στρέψον αὐτῷ καὶ τὴν ἄλλην. To be understood with the limitation imposed on the words by our Lord’s personal example, Joh 18:22-23.
The gradation of the examples given is from the greater to the less provocation.
