This Chapter Verse Commentaries:

18. οὐ γὰρ κ.τ.λ. The comparison with 2Co 10:8 f. seems to show that a double qualification of καύχησις is compressed into this rather clumsy declaration (1) I will only boast of my own works (not ἐν ἀλλοτρίοις κόποις), (2) I will not dare to boast of these works as my own, but only as Christ’s achievements through me: the thought of (1) crops up again in Rom 15:20, of (2) in 19.

εἰς ὑπακοὴν ἐθνῶν. Cf. Rom 16:19; to effect obedience (to Christ, of faith) on the part of Gentiles.

λόγῳ καὶ ἔργῳ. In speech and action: i.e. both in the preaching of the Gospel and in exemplifying it in life: more specific than 2Co 10:11; cf. Luk 24:9; Act 7:22; Col 3:17; 2Th 2:17; 1Jn 3:18.
