This Chapter Verse Commentaries:

14. μὴ προσέχοντες Ἰουδαϊκοῖς μύθοις, not giving heed to Jewish fables. see on 1Ti 1:4 and Introd. chap. IV.

καὶ ἐντολαῖς ἀνθρώπων ἀποστρεφομένων τὴν ἀλήθειαν, and commandments of men who turn away from the truth. As the next verse shews, these commandments were probably of a ceremonial or ritual character (cp. 1Ti 4:3, and the note at that place, and Col 2:16; Col 2:22). Such ἐντολαὶ ἀνθρώπων (Isa 29:13) must not be permitted to usurp the authority of Divine revelation or of the moral law (cp. Mat 15:9). To pay undue attention to questions of this kind tends to distract the mind from the contemplation of the great problems of life.
