This Chapter Verse Commentaries:

NASB (UPDATED) TEXT: Act_23:11

11But on the night immediately following, the Lord stood at his side and said, "Take courage; for as you have solemnly witnessed to My cause at Jerusalem, so you must witness at Rome also."

Act_23:11 "the Lord stood at his side" Here is another personal vision to encourage Paul (cf. Act_18:9-10; Act_22:17-19; Act_27:23-24). Paul was not a man without discouragement and doubt.

"Take courage" This is a present active imperative. This is the only use of this term in Luke's writings. Paul must have shared this with Luke. Jesus uses the term several times (cf. Mat_9:2; Mat_9:22; Mat_14:27; Joh_16:33).

"you must witness at Rome also" It was God's will for Paul to be imprisoned so that he might appear before Caesar. The gospel will be preached in Rome (cf. Act_19:21; Act_22:21)!

For "must" see full note at Act_1:16.
