¹Saul was in hearty agreement with putting him to death.

Act_8:1 "Saul was in hearty agreement with putting him to death" This phrase concludes Acts 7. It is a periphrastic imperfect active. Paul remembered this experience with great shame (cf. Act_22:20; 1Co_15:9; Gal_1:13; Gal_1:23; Php_3:6; 1Ti_1:13). Some relate this passage to Act_26:10, where it is assumed Paul voted in the Sanhedrin to put Christians to death.
