40And He went away again beyond the Jordan to the place where John was first baptizing, and He was staying there. 41Many came to Him and were saying, "While John performed no sign, yet everything John said about this man was true." 42Many believed in Him there.
Joh_10:40 This refers to the trans-Jordan area across from Jericho, close to a city called Bethany.
Joh_10:41 Again John states John the Baptist's affirmation of Jesus (cf. Joh_1:6-8; Joh_1:19-42; Joh_3:22-30; Joh_5:33)! This may have been to counteract some heresies that had developed around John the Baptist.
Joh_10:42 As the Jewish leaders rejected Jesus, so many of the common people (people of the land) responded in faith to Him (cf. Joh_2:23; Joh_7:31; Joh_8:30). See Special Topic at Joh_2:23.
