Ver. 9. Faithful is the word, and worthy of all acceptation. This form of expression, peculiar to the Pastoral epistles, has already occurred in another connection, 1Ti_1:15. Here it is applied to the promise of life now and hereafter, as connected with the earnest pursuit of holiness, which the apostle not only sets forth, but commends as entitled to implicit confidence, and worthy of cordial acceptance. He proceeds also to confirm what he thus says of it by a reference to his own aim in the work of the ministry, and that of his fellow-labourers in the gospel.
