bar (prefix): Aramaic for the Hebrew ×‘Ö¼×Ÿ, beÌ„n, â€œson.â€ Compare Aramaic sections of Ezra and Daniel. In the Old Testament the word is found three times in and once in Syriac (Hier. translates â€œpureâ€). In the New Testament â€œBarâ€ is frequently employed as prefix to names of persons.
