In the New Testament “exalt†is the translation of hupsoÌoÌ„, “to elevate†(not used with reference to God) (; ; ; ; , etc.); also (twice) of epaıÌroÌ„, “to lift up, upon or against†(; ), once of huperaıÌroÌ„, “to lift up above†(); in bis, this word is translated “exalted above measure,†the Revised Version (British and American) “exalted overmuchâ€; huperupsoÌoÌ„, “to lift up above†(), is translated “highly exaltedâ€; huÌpsos, “elevation,†is translated “exalted†(, the Revised Version (British and American) “high estateâ€).
For “it increaseth†(), the Revised Version (British and American) gives “and if my head exalt itselfâ€; instead of “God exalteth by His, power†(), “God doeth loftily in his powerâ€; for “though thou exalt thyself as the eagle†(), “mount on highâ€; for “highly esteemed†() “exaltedâ€; for “exalteth itself†(), “is exaltedâ€; for “He shall lift you up†(), “He shall exalt you.â€
Self-exaltation is strongly condemned, especially by Christ; humbleness is the way to true exaltation (; ; ; compare ; ); the supreme example is that of Christ Himself (-11).
