mezh´uÌ„Ìr, Several different words in the Hebrew and Greek are rendered by “measure†in English Versions of the Bible. In and it stands for מד, madh, מדּה, middaÌ„h, and it is the usual rendering of the verb מדד, maÌ„dhadh, “to measure,†i.e. “stretch out,†“extend,†“spread.†It is often used to render the words representing particular measures, such as ['ephah (, ; ; ); or kor (; ( and :25 Hebrew text); (Hebrew text 2:9) ; ); or seah (; ; ; , , ); or βαÌτος, baÌtos, “bath†(). It also renders מדּה, middaÌ„h, “measure of length†(); משׂוּרה, mesuÌ„raÌ„h, a liquid measure (; ; , ); מש×פּט, mishpaÌ„tÌ£, “judgment†(; ); ס×ס××”, sÌ£a'sÌ£e'aÌ„h, a word of uncertain meaning, perhaps derived from seah (); ש×ליש×, shaÌ„lı̄sh, “threefold, large measure†( (Hebrew text 80:6); ); תּכן, toÌ„kheÌ„n, and ×ž×ª×›Ö¼× ×ª, mathkoÌ„neth, “weight†and that which is weighed, taken as measure (). In it stands for ×—×§, hÌ£okÌ£, “limit.†In the New Testament, besides being the usual rendering of the verb μετÏεÌω, metreÌoÌ„, and of the noun μεÌÏ„Ïον, meÌtron, it is used for χοῖνιξ, choıÌnix, a dry measure containing about a quart ().
