mes´en-jẽr: The regular Hebrew word for “messenger†is מל×ך, mal'aÌ„kh, the Greek ἀÌγγελος, aÌggelos. This may be a human messenger or a messenger of God, an angel. The context must decide the right translation. In the prophet is called God's messenger; changes the King James Version to “angel†(margin “messengerâ€); and margin, suggests “angel†instead of “messenger.†and (twice) have caused a great deal of comment. See MALACHI. The Greek ἀποÌστολος, apoÌstolos, “apostle,†is rendered “messenger†in ; ; translations literally, from Hebrew בּשׂר, baÌ„sar, “to tell good news,†“he that brought the tidings.†reads “message†instead of “messenger.â€
