The word stands for: (1) מותר, moÌ„thaÌ„r, “what is over and above,†“excellenceâ€; “Man hath no preeminence above the beasts†(); (2) Ï€ÏωτευÌω, proÌ„teuÌoÌ„, “to be firstâ€; “That in all things he (= Christ) might have the preeminence†(); (3) ὁ φιλοπÏωτευÌων, ho philoproÌ„teuÌoÌ„n, is translated “who loveth to have the preeminence,†literally “who loveth to be first†(of Diotrephes, ).
