ram: (1) The ordinary word is ×יל, 'ayil, which is remarkably near to ×יּל, 'ayyaÌ„l, “deer†(compare Latin caper, capra, “goat,†and capreolus, “wild goat†or “roe-buckâ€; also Greek δοÏκαÌÏ‚, dorkaÌs, “roe-buck†or “gazelleâ€). (2) דּכר, dekhaÌ„r, literally, “male†(, ; ). (3) כּר, kar, “battering ram†(; ); elsewhere “lamb†(, etc.). (4) עתּוּד, ‛attuÌ„dh, properly “he-goat†(“ram,†, the King James Version). See SHEEP.
