shut up, or left. Hebrew 'azab, is a Homonym, with two meanings: (1) to leave, or forsake, Gen_2:24; Gen_39:6. Neh_5:10. Psa_49:10. Mai. Deu_4:1. (2) To help, restore, strengthen, shut in, or fortify, as in Exo_23:5. 1Ki_14:10. 2Ki_14:26. Neh_3:8. Jer_49:25. See the notes on these passages. Hence, here, Deu_32:36 = defended und protected. Note the perplexity manifested in the margins of Authorized Version and Revised Version.
